Breakfast with a Caveman

I am a writer in a quest to know real food and how to enjoy it.
Join me in this quest as we sift through our daily rations of the edible stuff and decide which are genuine honest to goodness food and which are knock-offs.

  • Food Inc. Better Late Than Never

    villavegan:

Thursday’s Working for Change … So I just saw Food Inc. on DVD this past weekend, and I was somewhat embarrassed at how long it took me, someone who really cares about where my food comes from and how it’s produced, to sit down and watch this extraordinarily important movie. Where was I when it came out in theaters? Even more surprising, however, is how long it’s taken for a movie like this to be created when the problems of:

    • Factory farming,
    • The consolidation of the American food production industry into the hands of a few corporate giants and
    • The thousands of chemicals and additives these corporations put in our food supply and define them on labels as “natural flavor” and other such nonsense,

have been growing increasingly worse with each passing year.

While it would have been better to have had all of these issues brought to our attention in the 1980s and 90s when they began to pick up speed, it’s better that Food Inc. was made now than after it may be too late to do anything about this mess in a few years. There’s still time. Buy organic. Read labels. Eat foods with as few ingredients on the packaging list as possible. Go vegetarian or, better yet, vegan, even some or most of the time. Better some than none. Better late than never.
